The average cost of a wedding in 2026 is estimated at over £20,000* to hire a venue, provide food and drinks for your guests, buy the wedding outfits, decorate the venue, engage a photographer, book entertainment, get stationery printed and have transport.
Using an approved venue
Several venues are now approved to hold marriage and civil partnerships providing a registrar is available on the day. You will need to pay a fee for their attendance and for the marriage certificate.
Registry Office V Celebrant led wedding celebration
If you want to save costs, why not opt for a simple civil marriage or partnership ceremony at the registry office? Then hold a personalised celebration with the people you love the most with a celebrant, wherever you want.
Celebrant ceremonies aren’t legally binding (in England & Wales). You must complete the legal part at a registry office which includes ‘giving notice’ of your intention to get married.
